This was a surprisingly difficult page. I didn't have that much trouble with panel two or four, I had those done back on Thursday. It was the rest that gave me a bit of hassle. My art style doesn't allow for very clear use of movement and motion so far as I've explored it. Without lines, I can't do motion lines, etc. So the underlay panel was the trickiest of all. In script I had Avante push her back but I just wasn't... I tried a few times but failed to really convey the movement. I felt it was overall clearer just to draw Mysada already having fallen.
I think what I like best about this is the fact that the circuitboard floor is responding to her falling. I just drew in the circuit lines in the last page because I was feeling too lazy to do bricks, but now I'm having fun with them. I think that the ciruit theme will show up throughout the rest of the ELF places on Mysada, since I was finding particularly in Avante's lab, it grew boring just having gray walls. And I really like the idea of the floor lighting up as people walk on it and strike it.
Between Places was originally intended to have a cyberpunk twist. I think I've ultimately decided to go in the magic direction but I think it's a good nod to the technological advancement of the Vilanars too.
So yeah, it's not a perfect page. But sorta cool page ACTUALLY ON TIME trumps perfect page. If you want incredible pages on a very slow update schedule you should be reading Dresden Codak instead. Like I've said, I'm really going to try get this Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday schedule back in action. I should be able to get a Tuesday and a Thursday page this week (holiday Monday, off Wednesday) and I'm hoping that this schedule will continue and allow enough time for me to get a tiny buffer to kill when I take my vacation in March. On one hand, I do need workdays. But on the other hand, I really miss my art. I think I'm back in the zone, though! I think I am! I think I am! TELL YOUR FRIENDS.
