Spoilerless summary!

When everything you know is only a dream, who will defend you? Who protects the dreamers? The timeless Vilanar family certainly doesn't. Weaving their way into the hearts of dreams, masked as fantasy creatures--only to destroy them. The Order tries to fight back, but they only have a handful of dreamers in their huge organization. Dayun, Talnaver, and Gabriel are these dreamers. They all have two things in common: they can enter a dream, and they are each bound to a Maldlahin--an elemental demigod of the dream realms. If they fail to rescue Mysada, and her dream is destroyed, they may be left stranded forever in the mists. Between Places: everything you know may only be a dream.

Chapter One: Between Places

Characters introduced: Dayun, Gabriel, Dreshae, and Navadae. Cameo hunting? Chapter one has cameos from Cetyia, Apple of Discord, Anomoly, Life's a Witch, Mysteries of the Arcana and Twilight Lady! Dayun is introduced in the first page, insecure about the state of his mission. Gabriel is also introduced in the first page, who's answered Dayun's call for backup--a bit later than Dayun had actually called him. Dayun indicates that his only consolation is that the people here are so used to magic that they don't notice the "wizards", in reference to how the dream constructs perceive members of the Order and other non-ELF (extrodinary life form, in general the Vilanar family and others under them) magic users. It's indicated that what's normal here is illegal where Dayun comes from.

In a brief flashback, it's revealed that Gabriel was injured in a fight on another planet because Dayun's phone call led someone to him. Dayun apologizes and they leave to discuss Dayun's mission, which was apparently ordered by the water Maldlahin, Navadae, rather than the Order. Dayun suggests that the reason she called him (as he's rather inexperienced) is spite.

Meanwhile, some kid (Dreshae) sneaks up and overhears their conversation, at least, the pieces of it that were in Common. Dayun is rather insecure about the mission, being as it has elves directly involved.

As Gabriel is required first to finish HIS mission, a mission in a dream named Falahil, he leaves Dayun on his own with a phone number for Talnaver, Gabriel's teacher, who's currently taking a week off to visit another dreamworld. Gabriel summons a portal and vanishes. While Dayun spends a moment being depressed, Dreshae distracts him with a rock and steals his wallet, including the phone number. Dayun gets directions to the police station and heads down there. After he leaves a report, he goes back to his hotel room, which was arranged before he was pickpocketed. As he no longer has databank access, he considers what options he has and elects to go through a detailed recollection of the previous events. There is a flashback. Sidenote: Dayun's Ordered ability is to memorywalk, allowing him to go back through a memory as if he was really there.

The Flashback

Earlier in the day, Dayun was summoned by the Order of Wizards without warning. He has a conversation with a wizard, who tells him that Navadae summoned him, and Mysada had been captured by ELFs. One of the qualities of dreams is that a dream passes far faster than the real world's time, so fourteen years ago, the ELF army appearing as traditional elves took over Adhaled--the dream's heart--and nothing was heard from the dream personification since. A week ago, however, Navadae heard her cry for help. The wizard explains that they may clone Mysada or they may be conditioning her to use this world as some sort of base. He also indicates that the other Maldlahin will be summoning their guardians for backup as well, to back up the human army. To get control of a dream, you need the dreamer, so the elves must have found the dreamer behind Mysada--which is a fairly old dream. Then the flashback alters, and Dayun realizes things are going wrong. Navadae shows up and pulls him underwater to give him some specific orders. She indicates that a dream is supposed to have its own guardians--which Mysada does not--and that Dayun killed her previous guardian. She tells him that Mysada may be replaced in the same way that he replaced her guardian. Then he passes out from lack of air and wakes up in his hotel room, rather disoriented.
